Critical research studies must be protected from accidents, contamination, and tampering. The access control feature is designed to monitor and control personnel traffic in the animal rooms.
Watchdog gives you this control by securing doors with magnetic locks or electric strike locks; and by providing staff with their own personal identification number (PIN) for access to air-locks, front and rear doors for each room and perimeter doors.
Each technician, investigator, and supervisor is assigned a unique four-digit personal identification number (PIN). To enter a room, the PIN is entered on the Local Processor (LP) keypad located at each room; if the individual has permission, the door will unlock. All access attempts create a time and date stamped log entry, complete with the location and person's name.
Room access rights for specific personnel are easily assigned and modified. Watchdog allows the administrator to set up a schedule of times during which system-wide access control is enabled or just enable access control for selected rooms on selected days. If the facility prefers free access to rooms during working hours, the access control does not need to be activated during that time. User accounts have the option to be created with an expiration date. This feature is used when contractors or temporary staff need access to the vivarium for a set length of time.
But there is more to the Watchdog access control feature beyond simply locking and unlocking doors... it is powerfully integrated with many other functions.
