Our History 

Edstrom Industries, Inc. was started by Bill Edstrom Sr. and his wife Sylvia in 1969. The Edstrom family was actively involved in the chinchilla industry with a show-winning herd of animals. To alleviate the agony of cleaning and filling hundreds of water bottles, Bill, a mechanical engineer at General Motors in Milwaukee at the time, designed the original Edstrom Drinking Valve. The drinking valve became part of an automated watering system that delivered clean, fresh water to the animals. This idea was enthusiastically received by other chinchilla ranchers and eventually adopted by raisers of other small animals.

Edstrom Industries attended its first National AALAS (American Association for Laboratory Animal Science) Meeting in 1970 to introduce a watering system designed specifically for this industry. Soon to follow that was the invention of our first flushing and monitoring systems for watering, and eventually the Watchdog® System for environmental monitoring was born in 1985.

In the early 1980's, Edstrom entered the agricultural market with watering and cooling systems for hogs. We expanded our market to include poultry watering with the purchase of Hart Systems in 1990. A modified version of the hog cooling system was made for the dairy industry in the early 2000's.

Today, Edstrom Industries, Inc. is recognized worldwide as a leader in the design and manufacture of automated drinking water systems for animals. We also provide water purification, access control, lighting control, and environmental monitoring. With the release of ViewPort® Vivarium in 2005, we now supply workflow management systems for animal research facilities. Our customers include pharmaceutical, government, biotech, and academic institutions. In addition, we sell to hog, dairy and poultry producers, bird and small animal breeders/hobbyists, and pet retailers.

Edstrom is proud to be both designer and manufacturer of its products. We have an extensive plant in Waterford where we do machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, electropolishing, injection molding, assembly, and packaging.
